Ladies!

How many of us, just wake up, throw on anything and run to that 5 am cardio class? Be honest, did you brush your teeth? 

Or how many of us, have a long day at work and just hit the cardio machine with out putting on that extra deodorant?

Ladies, I have seen, smelled, and witnessed many "not so cute" actions by ladies in my fellow gym and other fitness classes.  Granted, most of the time we don't have time to always focus on how we look or smell...but to be honest, your a lady!- no excuses!

Just like meal prep Sundays (which I hope ya'll do), you have to prep your workout days also! I use Sunday as my prep day for my week.

I will discuss with you the importance of physical appearance and gym hygiene.  I will also point out tips and ideas on: "Looking cute while working out hard"!

Physical appearance:

Ladies, trust me people are looking at your linty pants, wrinkled t-shirt, and untamed hair...and those dry lips.  Look your best everywhere you go!  I take pride in looking my best for work, church, school, and the gym.  I do it for me, I do it and it makes me feel good.  I do it and it boosts my confidence! 

Outfits (Nike, Dicks Sporting, Burlington, Forever 21) -Treat yourself to new clothes from time to time, ditch those linty black sweats and wrinkled shirts.

Details (Nike, Dicks Sporting, Forever 21)-Take time to match your fits- accessorize with headbands and workout gloves.  Cute ankle socks and hair ties suggested (match everything!)

Moisturize (Aveeno, Burts Bees, L’Oreal)- Lotion your body and hands, apply lip gloss and don’t forget the mascara!  Extra tip:  Add a little blush to give that little extra cuteness

Sneakers (Nike, Finsihline, Footlocker)- Treat yourself once in a while to new feets.  Your feet deserve to be treated well, your feet takes you that extra mile on the spin bike or stair master!

Sports bras (Nike, Adidas, Old Navy, Forever 21) - invest in good sport bras ladies! Don't wear your padded push-up bra to do cardio and expect your melons or coconuts to stay in place!

Gym Hygiene:

Oh ladies, please take this as serious as you want to take your health...let's be mindful of our body and the ability that it has to smell bad!  I have been to my gym so many times and couldn't use the bathroom after a young lady came out, because it smelled horrible!  Or ladies forget to put on deodorant prior to working out- those clean and press shoulder workouts leave the area smelling foul!

Again, I take pride in myself all around and I shower before I work out!  Yes, I shower!  May seem like a non-sense thing to do, you’re probably saying but you’re going to get all sweaty anyway...so what...I have a better workout knowing my squats smell fresh and my overhead presses smell like secret deodorant !  Allow me to give you a few tips!

Shower: cleans your body after a long day prior to your workouts- you will re-energize your body and your overall performance will increase

Deodorant: Don’t be afraid to put deodorant on other places on your body...i put my deodorant on the small of my back, and on my tummy...so my sweat emanates good smells :)

Cotton Thongs/Underwear: I suggest you only wear cotton underwear, nylon underwear tends to have dye and can get all nasty and sweaty on your special parts.  When buying underwear for working out, get one size larger for that comfortable fit. Extra tip: wear panty liners to keep things clean

Foot spray: I spray my sneakers before and after my workouts...smelly feet are a no go!

Change after working out: after my workouts I like to get out of my everything and change into my lounge pants and hoodie...I normally go commando to let my body breath until I get home and shower:)

TIP: DO NOT PUT ON PERFUME AND BODY SPRAYS- it smells good to you, but smells horrible in the gym!

Before I go into my long winded journey...allow me to highlight key bullets pointing to the different avenues and requirements to ride this fitness trail.

  1. Why? Know why you want to lose the weight
  2. How much do want to lose? Set SMALL realistic goals
  3. Tools: Nutritionist, General Physician, Personal Trainer, Mindset
  4. Where do I start? This questions is individual based- explained later
  5. Planning: Get out a notebook and pencil - all you need for now!
  6. Meal Prep: 80% of fitness goals revolves around what you eat!
  7. Track you’re eating: important!  you must see what you’re eating
  8. Workout Schedule: Gym, park, garage, living room, anywhere!
  9. Progress: Everyone loves before and after pictures and measurements
  10. Financial: Control your spending, this fit life can get expensive and out of control!
  11. Rest and Hydration: Can't even begin to express the importance...
  12. Ready, Set; Let’s Do This- no turning back now...

Why? Know why you want to lose the weight

                So, true story was one day I was waiting to board a city MTA bus: bus arrives: I get on: and this nice man got up and said, please pregnant lady have a seat!  I was so embarrassed, I rubbed my belly and said thank you!  Then of course he began to engage in a preggo convo with me...how months are you, you’re really showing...here I go, looking around to make sure I don't see anyone I know on the bus ride home...I went home that evening feeling like a fat ass lard...not to mention I picked up crown friend chicken and fries for my evening relaxation...I still ate the food...but boy things began to change....

                Everyone is going to say, no honey, you look pretty just the way you are, your boyfriend/girlfriend will say baby, you look fine.  Your best friend will say, you buggin, you good.  F that! Look in the mirror, look at your old high school pictures, look at yourself in current pictures and say to yourself am I truly happy with the way I look??? BE HONEST, SAY IT, NO I AM NOT HAPPY, TIME FOR CHANGE!

                So, take home message here, dig in yourself and pull out the real reason your want to lose this weight and lets get this journey going right after you finish reading this long ass blog, lol.

How much do want to lose? Set SMALL realistic goals

                Yeah, I said the next morning, I want to lose 100 pounds,  mind you this is 2012 and I weighed in at 187.6 pounds...pure unhealthy...  Obviously losing 100 pounds is realistic, the unrealistic part of this dream is I wanted to lose this weight in 2.3 seconds of thinking it...yeah Vio...chill out mama...this takes TIME....structured, dedicated time....small goals is what I set.

                Every month I set small goals- this month I want to lose 5 pounds...small realistic goal...and at the end of each month I was so happy to see not only I loss the 5 pounds.,. But I lost like 3 additional pounds in a month!  So 8 pounds down and honey, I felt brand new already...lol

                Set small goals to your weight loss journey...take it one month at a time...this is a learning process...every month take it to  research, learn, and understand what it is you’re doing here!  Weight loss is in the food you consume, the fitness activity, checking your health, hydrating, and rest!
